Alcohol and drug services provide counselling, group work and specialist services to those wanting to address an alcohol or drug related issue. The aim is to reduce the harm that drinking or other drug taking is causing. A range of interventions are offered including assessment, counselling, information and therapeutic groups, support and consultation in a culturally appropriate way. Service delivery may include inpatient settings, intensive outpatient treatment, walk-in clinics and home based treatment teams as well as specific culturally focused services e.g., for Maori, Pasifica and GLBTI communities.
Psychologists provide comprehensive assessments, clinical management and ongoing therapeutic interventions. The role requires a good deal of collaboration within multi-disciplinary teams and the provision of psychological consultation. Supervision, training, contributing to research, teaching, leadership and service development may also be part of these roles.
To be considered you will need to:
- be a fully qualified psychologist.
- be able to work therapeutically with people with substance misuse issues.
- have knowledge and experience in harm reduction principles .
- be able to complete comprehensive psychological assessments, including testing.
- have clinical case management experience.
- be able to provide psychological consultation.
- the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals as part of a MDT.
- be an effective verbal communicator with strong relationship management skills.
- have a driver's license.
