Professional Development 2013

Professional development is an important aspect of the psychology profession. Psychologists from abroad who are interested in psychology jobs in New Zealand may be curious about the types of development opportunities that will be available in 2013. In February writer, director and producer Nora Bateson, known for her multimedia projects on intercultural understanding, is Auckland to present the award-winning documentary “An Ecology of Mind”, a portrait of her father Gregory Bateson’s way of thinking. – James Carmody PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Massachusetts Medical School, in February and March will present in Christchurch and in Auckland the workshop “Translating the Principles of Mindfulness into Clinical Practice” – New Zealand’s first workshop on Supervision in Coaching Psychology will be held in Christchurch in March. – The New Zealand Psychological Society annual conference will be held in Auckland in September. Confirmed keynote speakers are: Professor John P. Forsyth, Director of the Anxiety Disorders Research Program at the University at Albany Upstate New York, USA; Dr. Nancy Pachana, clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist at the University of Queensland, Australia; Prof. Margaret Wetherell from the University of Auckland, NZ; Dr. Karl Hanson, Adjunct Professor at Carleton University, Canada; Social and clinical psychologist Dr. Phillipa (Pip) Pehi, NZ.
