About Us Jobs Job Seekers New Zealand Employers Contact Us

In this section you will find details of how Psych-Recruitment helps both local and overseas jobseeker to obtain work.

We offer job seekers a unique service as we are the only recruitment agency that specializes in the field of psychology. New Zealand currently has a shortage of psychologists, mental health specialists and forensic/correctional staff. Over the last five years we have been tightly focused on this comparatively small but specialist section of the employment market. We have solid networks to leading employers along with an in-depth knowledge of the practice of psychology in New Zealand.

The Psych-Recruitment approach

We believe that recruitment is more than simply matching job specifications with qualifications and skills on a curriculum vitae. To promote successful placements we concentrate on finding and introducing employers that match a psychologists career goals. Our preference is to spend time gaining a feel for, and an understanding of a psychologists needs. We then assist in identifying preferred positions and suited employers.

Why we specialize in the Psychology employment market !

Psych-Recruitment is owned and managed by a psychologist with both clinical and management experience. The concept developed from recognition of the lack of specialist recruitment facilities for psychologists.  Psychologists benefit from a consultant who understands the profession and who provides recruitment services that are specific and complete.

Since 2000 when we started our scope has grown. New Zealand employers have asked us also to assist with placements into associated  non-psychologists roles such as Corrections specialists (e.g., offender behaviour programmes) , Alcohol & Drug specialists and social workers.

Who do we assist ?

We assist psychologists from all around the world who have specialist qualifications in psychology. We also assist those at the senior/consultant/management levels to further develop their careers. Our expertise is with applied fields of clinical, counselling, correctional/forensic, rehabilitation, neuropsychology and psychotherapy.

Our services ideally suit psychologists with;

  • immediate/imminent employment needs

  • those with long term employment goals such as a specific position or location

  • those seeking temporary contracts

  • those interested in working overseas

What makes Psych-Recruitment different from our competitors is our knowledge of the psychological profession, particularly local licensing, registration or charter criteria.

Non New Zealand Psychologists

For overseas psychologists seeking employment in New Zealand we provide details on current employment conditions, along with local immigration, professional or regulatory body requirements. We also provide credential appraisal and verification to ensure New Zealand  employers are both familiar and confident with foreign qualifications. As we put considerable preparation into applications, foreign trained psychologists will find that we often achieve successful placements ahead of overseas candidates who apply directly to employers.  Further migration will be greatly  accelerated and simplified through our co-ordination of job applications, immigration and professional body applications.

We have particular expertise in the
 New Zealand recruitment market.

What happens when you register ?

When you register there is no cost, and your details remain strictly confidential. It is important to read our terms of registration.

Initially we require a description of your employment requirements and details of your skills and experience in order to facilitate job searching and matching. After ensuring that we fully understand your employment needs we will start forwarding details of jobs that match your specifications. Given New Zealand's relatively small population of just 4 million it often can take some months for suitable positions to become available.

Once you have identified a position of interest and instructed us to forward a job application, we are likely to require further details and documentation. This may include your consent to contact referees, copies of academic records, proof of professional body membership, copies of regulatory body certification, details of current practicing certificates (if applicable) and certificates of good standing. To safeguard everybody's needs we have a policy of verifying all credentials.  We then provide full support throughout the job search and recruitment process.  Follow these links to read more about our recruitment services or if you wish to register  you employment needs now.
