How much does it cost to live in
New Zealand
? What would my standard of living be like? These are some of our most
often asked questions yet we find comparing and contrasting living costs
between countries and even within countries one of the most difficult to
adequately respond to.
If you consider that different countries and even locations
have certain peculiarities to consider, such as London's high commuting
costs, the USA high tertiary education fees, Europe's high fuel costs.
Then there is often the cultural difference such as
America’s widespread practice of service tipping,
or
socio-political structural differences such as whether healthcare and
pensions are paid for
out of the general tax or
an individual’s responsibility. Factor in whether you are single, a couple
or
a family and the equations becomes complex.
New Zealand certainly
has it’s own set of peculiarities where it's economy as a nation, based
on just four million inhabitants, is affected by it’s geographical
isolation, small domestic
markets, maintaining its well
developed modern infrastructure, support of
a comprehensive welfare and health system available to all it’s
ordinary resident and it's supp
or
t on contributing to w
or
ld development through its overseas aid programmes,
peace keeping missions and environmental policies.
We
have included some basic information in this section but we encourage you to surf the net. There is now
quite a large number of specialist immigration
orientated websites . Also a good source of well research information can be located by taking the following link to a section of the New
Zealand Immigration Service information section.
In the following section you will find information on income
tax rates, housing costs, and about motor
vehicles. We have developed a separate section devoted to the system of healthcare
in New Zealand.
