Job Title:

Counsellor & Clinical Supervisor

32 hours per week*

Contract;

  • Relationship Counsellor - 20 hours

  • Clinical Supervisor - 10 - 12 hours

If a full time position is required further hours may be available.

Key Focus:

Relationship counseling and advice

Key Role:

To provide quality assurance for the Trustees of the organisation that the services delivered meet federation standards and that counseling is delivered in a consistent way in line with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework.

Key Tasks:

  • Provision of counsellor training, skills development and education to enable federation standards or centre policies to be met

  • Contributing to the management of client issues including complaints

  • Contributing to the management of child protection and additional supervision in relation to domestic violence

  • Advising the Trustees on new developments in counselling practice or other good practice issues

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Place of Work:

This organisation provides an exceptional working atmosphere, the chance to be part of a large and diverse peer group which includes staff qualified in social work, social work trainees, a great administrative crew and service managers.  There is a small office with phone line attached to this post.  The appointee will be invited to regional meetings to meet with other supervisors and to receive group supervision and some evening working will be required from time to time for supervision and meetings.

Required skills & experience:

This employer is seeking someone qualified both as a practitioner and as a supervisor.  They seek someone who:

  • Has 750-1000 hours of couple counselling experience

  • Is competent in systemic and/or psychodynamic models of therapy

  • is qualified and trained or having substantial experience in the field of supervision having worked a minimum of 100 delivered hours as supervisor, currently working a minimum of 50 hours p.a. of delivered hours as a supervisor and receiving supervision of supervisory work at the rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours of supervision delivered p.a.

  • Has a practitioner qualification in the clinical setting in which supervision is offered. 

Ideally the applicant will also have;

  • Knowledge of child abuse/neglect and its impact on children/young people

  • Knowledge of domestic violence and its impact on victims and children/young people

  • Experience of working for a charity or small business where there is a lean staffing infrastructure

  • Skills to adapt and be flexible but boundaried within a small team

  • Previous experience of delivering counseling in organisational setting

  • Ability to contain the balance of organisational financial viability vs. clients ability to pay for services

  • Ability to balance a number of competing demands at once

  • Willing to learn with a ‘can do’ attitude and a significant amount of team spirit

Professional  Requirements:

Qualified status as a Relate counsellor by either the Revised Certificate Programme route or the Graduate Certificate route; PST Diploma; Certificate in systemic practice, year 1; or equivalent qualification gained outside of Relate.  Registered with an appropriate professional body subject to its complaints procedure and accredited by or registered with it or eligible for such registration.

Career Path:

6 month probation, an annualised hours contract based on GBP28,000, 4 weeks paid holiday, SSP and SMP (once eligible) and pro rata payments for bank holidays.
