Key Focus:

Assessment and intervention of offending behaviour. Providing specialist consultation, advice and training.

Place of Work:

A new office located in Manukau (South Auckland)  Psychologists will travel to local Probation Service offices and the new Auckland Women's and Springhill Men's prisons to deliver psychological services.

The staffing contingent will include a Principal Psychologist (Manager), ten clinical, forensic or general psychologists and an administration person.      

Key Roles:

  • To provide quality psychological services including clinical and risk assessment, treatment, referral to appropriate agencies where necessary, supervision to prison, intervention or probation staff, monitoring of integrity of assessments and intervention programmes;

  • To provide advice, education and training to Corrections staff and community agencies;

  • To provide specialist consultation and advice to the National Parole Board regarding risk, and the Courts regarding sentencing;

  • To develop good working relationships with other services, agencies and groups;

  • When required to undertake research in the context of the scientist/practitioner model;

  • Senior Psychologists will provide professional supervision and oversight of some psychologists in the team.

 

Required skills & experience:

  •  Experience can be new graduate thru to senior levels;

  • General;

    *        Emotionally mature and stable.

    *       Commitment to supporting organisational goals and, in particular, a service focus.

    *       Ability to problem-solve.

    *       Ability to work in a team.

Professional  Requirements:

Registration or eligibility for registration under the New Zealand Psychologists Boards clinical or general scopes of practice.
