Senior Clinical Psychologist - Chronic Illness Co-ordinator

Key Focus:

The coordination and provision of evidence-based clinical assessment and treatment for clients experiencing chronic health conditions, in order to provide effective and safe psychological services. This service is also devoted to research and training.

Key Roles:

This position will provide a wide range of clinical health psychology services for those experiencing chronic health difficulties in the areas of diabetes, respiratory, and cardiovascular ailments. There will be the opportunity to facilitate clinical research and professional training that is evidence-based and culturally appropriate and  to practice in the psycho-oncology service.  In addition to being encouraged to further develop your own area of expertise and specialisation, this position has responsibility for professional practice in the area of chronic illness and for supervision of clinical trainees within the context of ongoing evaluation and treatment outcome research.  A cognitive-behavioural orientation is desirable in order to fit with the direction of the Clinical Training Programme. There will be encouragement to develop state-of-the-art, evidence-based community treatment programmes for clients in the lower North Island.

Required skills & experience:

  • A minimum of three years applied practice experience

  • Clinical research experience in a relevant area is desirable.

  • Special expertise with clinical health psychology is a priority

  • High level of professional skill, and commitment to the scientist-practitioner model.

  • Committed to excellence in practice and research

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

  • Excellent communication skills, together with the ability to inspire students

  • Excellent role model for students

  • Ability to establish effective liaisons with community services and organisations

  • Cultural competencies in serving clients from diverse backgrounds and cultural groups

Professional  Requirements:

Registration or eligibility for registration under the New Zealand Psychologists Boards clinical scope of practice.

Career Path:

Salary range $65,367—$75,592 depending on experience
