Key Focus:

Forensic Psychiatry Service  Inpatient Unit

Place of Work:

The position is based in Auckland in a multi-disciplinary inpatient team with in a within a regional forensic psychiatric service. Psychologists are part of a Psychology Department with in the Forensic Psychiatric Service.

Key Role:

Provision of psychological, neuropsychological and risk assessment for forensic and clinical purposes.

To provide individual and group therapy.

To develop health care and management plans with members of a multi-disciplinary team.

To complete forensic reports.

Required skills & experience:

  •  Qualification in clinical psychology with at least three years post internship experience.

  • Ability to carry out psychological forensic assessments and interventions.

  • Ability to use clinical psychometric, neuropsychological and offence related assessment tools.

  • Experience of providing psychological assessment and treatment services to culturally diverse clients with complex issues.

  • Understanding of clinical case management in a multidisciplinary setting.

Professional  Requirements:

Registration or eligibility for registration under the  New Zealand Psychologists Boards clinical scope of practice.

Career Path:

Advancement by yearly increment up a nine step salary scale.

Senior/Consultant psychologists start on a multi-level consultant salary scale (i.e., a separate merit scale).

Some psychologists take on Principal Psychologists or Professional Advisor roles within the wider service.
